Wearside U3A, a member of the Third Age Trust, was one of the first in the North East and is based in the City of Sunderland at the mouth of the river Wear. In the mid 19th century, Sunderland was the biggest shipbuilding port in the world and Wearside produced almost a third of all ships built in the UK.
The Wearside U3A is a self-help, self-managed, life-long learning co-operative. It was formed in 1993 and is a registered charity. We provide educational and creative opportunities for people no longer in full time employment with associated leisure and social activities.
We have a monthly meeting for members on the second Friday of the month, when we congregate to have refreshments, sign up for activities for the coming weeks and enjoy a talk by a visiting speaker.
We meet at the newly refurbished Sunderland Bangladesh International Centre, Tatham Street in Sunderland at 10.00 am until noon.
